Cycles for Egg Donors and Donor Egg Recipients

Third party parenting cycles are very similar to a basic IVF cycle. The tools are the same, however, there are a few extra steps to accommodate these more complex cycle types.

Cycles for Egg Donors

All donor cycle types will be set up using the same designation in Artisan, Donor Banking. Donors and recipients will each have their own cycles created that will appear in the donor/recipient chart. Based upon the different scenarios of donor cases, the nature of the cycle will be different. Here are the most common cases:

1. Donor Cycle- Freeze all oocytes and allocate to clinic egg bank

2. Donor Cycle- Fresh allocation of oocytes to one or more donor egg recipients

Donor Cycle-Freeze All Oocytes and Allocate to Clinic Egg Bank

This cycle type will only require a cycle for the Egg Donor/Ovum Donor, as there is no IP Recipient.  The cycle can be accessed from the donor’s chart under ART Treatment Cycles or from the Surgical Grid.

Click on the cycle to access it from the donor’s chart.

At the top of the Donor Banking cycle, the donor name, donor number, cycle type and date of the cycle will be listed.  The following can be found under the Cycle Creator tab of the cycle.

  1. Start date of stimulation

  2. Donor name

  3. Is there at least 1 recipient for this donor cycle- No

  4. Trigger date and time

  5. Retrieval date and time

  6. Provider

  7. Was a transfer attempted- No

  8. Was the cycle cancelled- Yes or No

The stimulation start date, donor name and indicator that there are no recipients will be set up by the clinic.  The trigger date and time and retrieval date and time can be entered by the lab.

Donor Cycle-Fresh Allocation of Oocytes to 1 or More Donor Egg Recipients

This donor cycle type will require at least 2 cycles:

1. Donor Banking cycle for the egg donor.

2. Donor Egg Recipient cycle for each donor egg recipient.

Making Sure the Recipient and Donor are Linked

The donor and recipient may be linked.  For detailed instructions on how to link a recipient to a donor and to access the link, please refer to the manual Link Donors and Surrogates to Intended Parents.

The Donor Banking Cycle for the Egg Donor

When a donor is donating eggs fresh to one or more recipients, the recipient(s) will be linked to the donor banking cycle.

  • Is there at least 1 recipient for this donor cycle: Yes

  • The recipient(s) will be listed under the donor recipient fields.  The clinic has the ability to attach up to 3 recipients to the cycle.

There will also be a donor egg recipient cycle for each of the recipients.

The Donor Egg Recipient Cycle for the Donor Recipient(s)

The recipient cycle can be accessed from the Surgical Grid or in the patient chart under ART Treatment Cycles by clicking on the Donor Egg Recipient cycle.

At the top of the cycle, the recipient name, egg donor name (this is lab facing only), cycle type and the date of the cycle will be listed.  The following will be listed under the Cycle Creator tab.

  1. Start date of stimulation

  2. Donor name

  3. Donor retrieval date and time

  4. Transfer date and time if the recipient will have a fresh transfer in this cycle.  This can be left blank if the recipient will not have a transfer in this cycle.

  5. Provider

  6. Was a transfer attempted: Yes or No

  7. Was the cycle cancelled: Yes or No

The stimulation start date, donor name indicator that there is one or more recipients and recipient names will be entered in by the clinic.  The lab can enter the trigger date and time and retrieval date and time.

Notes about Donor/Donor Recipient Cycle Types

Headings

To make sure the correct cycle types have been created for the donor and recipient,  check the notation at the header. An IP/recipient/patient should always have a "Donor Egg Recipient" cycle type if they are receiving fresh eggs from the donor.

A donor should always have a "Donor Banking" cycle type.

Cycle Locations

Both the cycle for the donor and the donor recipient/IP will live in the chart of the IP and the Donor.  In the patient and donor chart, the cycle for the donor will be listed as Donor Banking and will be italicized. The cycle for the IP will be listed as Donor Egg Recipient. This will allow for easy access and the records to be linked.
