Third party parenting cycles are very similar to a basic IVF cycle. The tools are the same, however, there are a few extra steps to accommodate these more complex cycle types.
Cycles for Surrogates and IPs
All surrogate cycle types (fresh transfer from patient, FET, donor, etc.) will be created using the same designation in Artisan, Gestational Carrier. Depending on the nature of the gestational carrier cycle, the gestational carrier and IP/gestational carrier and donor may need separate cycles. Here are the most common cases:
-
Gestational Carrier Cycle-FET (either from an embryo created from the intended parent or donor contributions)
-
Gestational Carrier Cycle- Fresh Embryo Transfer from Patient IVF Cycle
-
Gestational Carrier Cycle- Fresh Embryo Transfer from Donor Egg Cycle
Make Sure the IP/Patient and Surrogate are Linked
The clinic may have already linked the IP and gestational carrier. For detailed instructions on linking the IP and surrogate charts as well as accessing an existing link, please refer to the manual Link Donors and Surrogates to Intended Parents.
Surrogacy Cycle-FET
This cycle type will only require one cycle, a Surrogacy Recipient cycle, as the embryo that will be transferred has already been formed. This can also be used if there will be an egg thaw with a transfer to the gestational carrier.
Access the Gestational Carrier cycle from the intended parent’s chart or from the gestational carrier’s chart under ART Treatment Cycles by clicking on the cycle.
Under the Cycle Creator tab, you will find the following information:
-
Start date of stimulation (for the gestational carrier)
-
Gestational carrier’s name
-
Egg Provider: Frozen
-
Progesterone start date
-
Transfer date and time
-
Provider
-
Was a transfer attempted- Yes or No
-
Was the cycle cancelled- Yes or No
The stimulation start date, gestational carrier name and egg provider field will be filled out by the patient’s clinic. The progesterone start date and transfer date and time can be entered by the lab.
Fresh Embryo Transfer from Intended Parent’s IVF Cycle
This cycle type will require 2 cycle types: a Gestational Carrier cycle and an IVF cycle for the intended parent.
Gestational Carrier Cycle
Access the cycle from the intended parent’s or gestational carrier’s chart by clicking on the cycle under ART Treatment Cycles.
Under the Cycle Creator Tab, the following can be found:
-
Start date of stimulation
-
Gestational carrier’s name
-
Egg Provider: Fresh From Patient
-
Progesterone start date
-
Transfer date and time
-
Provider
-
Was a transfer attempted- Yes or No
-
Was the cycle cancelled- Yes or No
The stimulation start date, gestational carrier name and egg provider field will be filled out by the clinic. The lab can fill out the progesterone start date and transfer date and time.
IP Cycle-IVF
The intended parent will also have an IVF cycle that will be accessed from her chart. The IVF cycle will be set up like any other IVF cycle for a patient not using a gestational carrier. On the lab referral in the intended parent's IVF cycle, the transfer information will not be filled out as that information will be captured in the Lab Referral on the Surrogacy Recipient Cycle.
Fresh Embryo Transfer from Donor Egg Cycle
This cycle type will require 2 cycle types: a Gestational Carrier cycle and a Donor Banking cycle for the egg donor. The Gestational Carrier cycle will replace the Donor Egg Recipient cycle.
Gestational Carrier Cycle
Access the cycle from the intended parent’s or gestational carrier’s chart by clicking on the cycle under ART Treatment Cycles.
Under the Cycle Creator tab, you will find the following information:
-
Start date of stimulation (for gestational carrier)
-
Gestational carrier’s name
-
Egg Provider: Fresh Donor Egg
-
Egg donor’s name (this is lab and clinic facing only)
-
Progesterone start date
-
Transfer date and time
-
Provider
-
Was a transfer attempted- Yes or No
-
Was the cycle cancelled- Yes or No
The stimulation start date, gestational carrier name, egg provider field and donor name will be filled out by the clinic. The progesterone start date and transfer date and time can be filled out by the lab.
Donor Cycle-Donor Banking
Follow the steps of a Donor Banking cycle; the recipient will be the IP/Patient. For detailed instructions on how to set up the donor banking cycle, read the manual Cycles for Egg Donors and Donor Egg Recipients.
Notes About Cycle Locations for IPs and Gestational Carriers
The gestational carrier cycle will live in the chart of the IP and the Surrogate.
Heading
The hedging in the gestational carrier cycle will have the GC's name, intended parent’s name, cycle type and cycle date.
